Carly Taylor                PhD Student                APRS Funded

Carly will investigate the quantitative genetics of sexual conflict in the seed beetle Callosobruchus maculatus. More detail about Carly’s project will soon be available from somewhere soon.

Bruno Buzatto             PhD Student                IPRS Funded

Bruno has an International Scholarship from UWA. His work is focussed on the evolution of male dimorphisms, investigating genetic compatibilities between morphs, selection on thresholds and maternal effects. Bruno is co-supervised with Leigh Simmons. More details about is work can be from here.

Esther Levy                 PhD student                APRS Funded

Esther’s PhD is on population genetics and phylogeography of the ornate dragon lizard Ctenophorus ornatus and is supervised with Natasha LeBas and Jason Kennington. More details about Esther’s work can be forum from here.

*Dr Gordon Brown      PhD student                NERC Funded

Gordon recently completed his PhD on the phylogeography of the European earwig Forficula auricularia in the British Isles. Through Gordon’s work we have increased our understanding of the genetic history of population divergence in male morph ratios in the European earwig. His work focused particularly on island populations in the Firth of Forth in Scotland and the Farne islands in Northumberland, UK.

*Dr Satu Paukku                     PhD student

Satu’s research has been on the quantitative genetics of reproductive costs in the bean weevil Callosobruchus maculatus. This work was conducted in part at the University of St Andrews. She has completed her PhD and is currently a post-doc in Jyväskylä. Satu was supervised with Prof Janne Kotiaho. Further details of her work can be found from here.

*Dr Ulec Unrug            PhD student

Ulec’s PhD is run through the Jagiellonian University. As part of the ongoing collaboration with Jacek, Ulec spent three months in St Andrews conducting a selection experiment in the mite S. berlesei. Ulec was supervised with Jacek Radwan.

*Łukasz Michalczyk   Masters           Joint supervised with Jacek Radwan, Krakow.

*Piotr Łukasik             Masters           Joint supervised with Jacek Radwan, Krakow.

Lukasz and Piotr visited St Andrews from Jacek’s group at the Jagiellonian. Both worked on experiments quantifying fitness functions in the S. berlesei. These experiments contributed to their Masters degrees. Lukasz is currently doing a PhD at UEA. Piotr is finishing his undergraduate studies in Poland.
